QoS Control

Smart QoS Control

Quality of service function could manage data traffic to reduce packet loss, latency, and jitter on the network. By prioritizes traffic so that more important traffic can pass first, then achieve the result to performance improvement for critical network traffic.

With the popularity of p2p downloading and p2p video, the bandwidth of a large number of governments, enterprises, and schools is heavily congested. At the same time, the demand for priority-protected applications is increasing. Therefore, priority-controlled QoS flows for various application traffic are required. The control function is extremely critical.

QOS flow control adopts PHQ intelligent algorithm. At the height of global overall planning, all the internal network traffic is divided into six business channels according to the priority level: game, chat, webpage, common, video and download. QOS flow control algorithm has the following characteristics: priority orderly, download orderly, fair sharing, channel borrowing

Smart QoS Features

Well-ordered Priority
In any case, priority is given to ensuring the bandwidth of high-priority service channels such as games, chats, and web pages, so as to ensure it doesn’t stuck, and flowing smoothly.

Stay on the Designated Trail
While downloading and watching videos, the game is smooth and the webpage does not get stuck.

Fair Sharing
The PHQ algorithm ensures that each host in each service channel has a fair chance to prevent a host from monopolizing bandwidth for a long time, and automatically divides the bandwidth according to the number of users.

Channel Borrowing
When there is no traffic on the high priority channel, the bandwidth will be automatically borrowed to the low priority service channel.

Smart QoS Application

The smart QoS function powered by PHQ intelligent flow control algorithm is remarkable for serving massive concurrent users in the crowded environment such as shopping mall, Internet cafe, and so on.

The overall effect is no matter for the big bandwidth or small bandwidth, No matter single or multi-line, the game can’t be lost, the webpage is smooth, the download speed is high, and the bandwidth utilization is high.

Server Guaranteed Bandwidth

When the network bandwidth is tight, the server should be used normally, and the minimum bandwidth limit should be set to ensure that the client reads the server data normally.

Generally, a guaranteed bandwidth is set for the game update server to prevent the game from updating without a rate in a very tight bandwidth environment. The guaranteed bandwidth does not exceed one-third of the interface bandwidth.

Server IP address
Enter the external IP address of the server which requires guaranteed traffic bandwidth.

QoS Exceptions

Exception rules are not controlled by smart QoS flow control. Please pay attention that even if a fixed flow control strategy is configured to control its maximum rate, it may still be out of control sometimes.

After configured the fixed flow control, it is recommended to subtract the value in the QoS, and the sum of the two cannot be higher than the total Internet bandwidth.

For example, the exception rule sets an IP group including two IP addresses and configured a fixed rate limit of 500KB/s per IP. Assume that the total downlink bandwidth is set to 3500KB/s. And downlink fixed flow control for this IP address is set to 500KB/s. The smart QoS flow control is recommended to be set to (3500 – 2*500 =) 2500KB/s.

QoS Advanced Setting

Configure advanced QoS parameters: fine-tune QoS flow control policies

Disable Uplink QoS
You can disable the smart QoS flow control on the uplink. Recommended do not disable it.

Disable Downlink QoS
You can disable the smart QoS flow control on the downlink. Generally speaking, when the bandwidth is unusually large, and the router is heavily loaded, you can disable the downlink QoS to reduce the hardware resource consumption.

Suppression Limit up Factor
Control the downlink by suppressing the upward direction. The larger the value, the better the suppression effect. Generally, 70 to 80 is very strict. If the flow control is out of control in the case of a small bandwidth of less than 20M, it can be set to 70 to 80.

Dynamic Factor
It can control the degree of bandwidth sharing in each channel. The smaller the dynamic factor, the stricter the control of sharing. Generally, 20 is very strict. If the flow control is out of control in the case of a small bandwidth of less than 20M, it can be set to 15 to 20.

Game Channel Uplink& Downlink
Limit the traffic of both uplink and downlink for all gaming applications. Only in extremely rare cases may need to be set.

Chat Channel Uplink & Downlink
Limit the traffic of both uplink and downlink for all chat applications, only in sporadic cases may need to be set;

Web Channel Uplink & Downlink
Limit the traffic of both upload and download for all web browsing traffic, and only need to be set in sporadic cases.

Custom QoS Rules

You can customize the QoS flow control rules. If you want the rules to take effect, you must turn off the intelligent flow control function on the interface. It means that all default priorities are invalid after checking this item, and can not work together with the smart QoS flow control.
This function is not recommended to use unless you know the configuration very well.
